Frequently asked questions!

Do you have any questions? We have the answers!

What exactly does refund.me do?

refund.me is a service company that operates worldwide and helps passengers to receive compensation quickly and unbureaucratically. We have developed an innovative technology for our passenger sector: Advanced Business Logic (ABL). This checks the incoming data and prepares a detailed letter on the claim for damages if there is a right to compensation.

Automated and cloud-based processes ensure efficient and fast further processing. In this way, our customers are able to track the progress of their claims in real time and unbureaucratically. The aim of refund.me is to claim compensation as quickly as possible.

How much does the refund.me service cost?

refund.me receives 29.75% of every compensation paid as commission (this corresponds to 25% success commission plus the legal VAT).

If your claim for compensation is rejected, you will not be charged anything (“No Win, No Fee”).

We make every effort to assert your claim for damages as quickly as possible by means of detailed review processes and cooperation with experienced lawyers.

No win, no fee! – What does that mean?

The term has its roots in the American legal system and means: No success, no costs!

What does this mean for you? Refund.me only receives a commission if your case is successfully closed. The commission is 29.75% (= 25% profit share plus VAT) of the compensation paid by the airline.

It couldn’t be simpler.

What documents do I need to submit to receive a compensation payment?

Ideally, you should submit the airline tickets for your flight and the replacement flight, as well as a booking confirmation and – if available – a confirmation from the airline about the delay. Photos of repairs to the aircraft or the departure board indicating the delay, press releases about the delay or similar evidence would also be helpful.

When can I expect my compensation payment?

We currently work with an average case handling time of 100 days. This time may vary depending on the airline. Court cases can take several months or even be postponed due to ongoing airline lawsuits against passenger rights. Litigation is largely a national matter.

Is refund.me a law firm?

No. Refund.me is a registered collection agency based in Germany. We cooperate throughout Europe with various lawyers who specialise in air passenger rights.

I’m on a business trip. Who is entitled to compensation?

You are travelling on business and your company has paid for the flight. Your flight fulfils the compensation claim requirements of EU Regulation 261/2004. Who is entitled to receive the compensation?

In accordance with EU Regulation 261/2004, the applicant and claimant is always the air passenger.

That means the air passenger has to create and submit the claim via refund.me and, in the first instance, has the right to receive the compensation, since he or she alone had to bear the inconvenience caused, for example, by a delayed flight. Further details in this connection are not specified in EU Regulation 261/2004.

Ultimately, whether or not you have to hand over the compensation payout to your employer can be governed in your employment contract.

Here, neither EU Regulation 261/2004 nor refund.me are applicable but only the “bilateral” relationship between the employee (air passenger) and employer (payer of the ticket).

How much compensation can I claim for flight delays?

EU Regulation 261/2004 mentions two separate cases:

• Was the arrival of your flight delayed for more than three hours?
• Did your flight take off more than five hours late?

The arrival of your flight was delayed for more than three hours.

In that case you’re entitled to compensation:

• €250 for flights up to 1500 km
• €400 for flights within the EU longer than 1500 km
• €400 for flights longer than 1500 km up to 3500 km
to destinations outside the EU
• For all other flights:
€300 if your flight was delayed less than 4 hours, or
€600 if your flight was delayed 4 hours or more

Your flight took off more than five hours late.

If the departure of your flight was delayed for five hours or more and you voluntarily gave back your ticket and did not board the plane, you are entitled to the following compensation:

• €250 for flights up to 1500 km
• €400 for flights within the EU longer than 1500 km
• €400 for flights longer than 1500 km up to 3500 km
to destinations outside the EU
• €600 for all other flights

Please also note that this includes not only flights leaving the EU but also flights destined for the EU, provided they are operated by an EU carrier.

Or do it the easy way and fill in our claim calculator with your flight details. We will calculate how much compensation the airline is likely to owe you and see to everything else on your behalf. Our commission of 29,75% (= 25% success fee plus VAT) is only due if we enforce successfully!

Note: The airline need not pay if it can prove that the delay was caused by extraordinary circumstances.

How much compensation will I receive for cancellations?

Your flight did not take place? Or, you were allocated to a later or different flight?

In the event of a cancellation not caused by extraordinary circumstances, you are entitled to the following compensation:

€250 for flights up to 1500 km
€400 for flights within the EU longer than 1500 km
€400 for flights longer than 1500 km up to 3500 km to destinations outside the EU
Up to €600 for other flights
Please also note that this includes not only flights leaving the EU but also flights destined for the EU, provided they are operated by an EU carrier.

Or do it the easy way and fill in the template on our ABL system with your flight details. We will calculate how much compensation the airline hs to pay and see to everything else on your behalf. According to the no win, no fee! principle, of course! Only if we succeed in enforcing your claim, we charge our commission of 29,75% of the compensation (= 25% success fee plus VAT).

Note: The airline need not pay if it can prove that the delay or cancellation was caused by extraordinary circumstances.

How much compensation will I receive for denied boarding?

The flight was overbooked and you weren’t allowed to board or you were allocated to another flight?

If so, it was a case of denied boarding against your will. For denied boarding against your will, you are entitled to the following compensation:

€250 for flights up to 1500 km
€400 for flights within the EU longer than 1500 km
€400 for flights longer than 1500 km up to 3500 km to destinations outside the EU
Up to €600 for other flights
Please also note that this includes not only flights leaving the EU but also flights destined for the EU, provided they are operated by an EU carrier.

Or do it the easy way and fill in the template on our ABL system with your flight details. We will calculate your compensation and see to everything else on your behalf. According to the no win, no fee! principle, of course! Our commission of 29,75% (= 25% success fee plus VAT) is only due if we succeed in enforcing your claim.

Note: The airline need not pay if it can prove that the delay or cancellation was caused by extraordinary circumstances.

I’m travelling with my family or with a group. Does that change anything?

You are travelling with your family or with a group, and your flight
fulfils the requirements of EU Regulation 261/2004? Then please observe the
following:

EU Regulation 261/2004 requires a separate claim for each passenger. Each
person travelling with you (except children under the age of two) is
entitled to claim compensation.

In order to conveniently and easily comply with this legal provision, the
refund.me software offers a way to key in the data for your companions with
as few key strokes as possible.

In our widget, you first enter the person-independent technical flight
data.

You then start entering the first person for the claim (e.g. yourself).

In case of a family sharing the same address, last name and perhaps email address, you just repeat the process by changing the first name of the additional passengers.

In case of a group where each passenger maintains her/his own personal data
(name, address, email etc. ) just add your travel companions back to back
and you’re done.

The system will then generate individual claims with claim reference
numbers and send out personalized PoAs to each and every claimant. It’s as
easy as that.

I’m flying from Oslo to Zurich. Does the EU regulation apply in my case?

Yes! The provisions in the EU regulation also cover Norway, Switzerland and Iceland and all of their respective airports. So you are likewise entitled to compensation on these routes. Ask our ABL system!
